Aetna recently announced changes coming to commercial plan drug lists and the launch of a Combined Benefit Management Drug List, which moves five drugs to pharmacy-only coverage on July 1.

The Infusion Providers Alliance (IPA) opposes specialty-pharmacy (white bag) mandates which can have harmful consequences to patients and impose financial and operational strain on providers. IPA sent a letter to Aetna on June 12, 2025, calling for Aetna to immediately reverse this policy change and preserve medical benefit access to these drugs when administered by in-network providers in a physician’s office or infusion center.
